Junior Cricket at Fillongley

Junior cricketers are the lifeblood of our sport and we take every effort to encourage young people to play. Many of our senior players came through our junior ranks, including 9 of the regular first team players. Fillongley offers cricket to boys and girls from age 5 upwards and all levels of ability. We provide qualified and accredited coaches and are ECB Club Mark approved. We have a Safeguarding Officer to ensure that all juniors are safe. Practices are usually on Tuesdays from 6 to around 7.30 and parents are welcome to stay use our lounge / bar area where we have WiFi access.

All Stars

Is a national programme for 5 to 8 year olds. No previous experience is assumed and the priority is on having fun first whilst learning through doing.

Dynamos

Is a national programme for 8 to 13 year olds. Whilst some players will have come through All Stars, we also cater for those who are starting the sport at this age.

Juniors in Senior Matches

Once they are judged to be capable by their coaches juniors can make themselves available for senior sides. The thrid team aims to introduce juniors to senior cricket whilst also staying reasonably competitive.

All Team Captains are DBS checked and there are rules relating to juniors playing in senior cricket aimed at ensuring they are safe.

Club Membership

It is important that all players are members. This way they will be covered by the Club's insurance policy. Juniors on the All Stars or Dynamos programmes automatically become members when they sign up. Other players can join as Club Members which involves a one-off payment for the season that covers all children and social membership for parents.

Womens Cricket

Our journey to provide womens cricket began in 2017 when a team made up of players' wives, girlfriends, juniors and their mothers entered womens softball cricket tournaments. Since then we have seen women go on to play hardball cricket with some getting into our Saturday league sides and one making the grade for selection to Warwickshire iunder 18 cricket.
This year we have a healthy womens team playing regular matches and always looking for new players

Matches

Once juniors are ready we offer matches of many types: Softball Cricket for those aged under 13. These are usually “pairs cricket” meaning all juniors get a chance to bowl and bat (even if they are “out”! Once players are deemed capable (and not before!) juniors move into playing hardball cricket. Games can be in pairs or later 11 a-side (when you are out, you are out!)

One-to-One Coaching

The Club can provide one-to-one coaching through recommended coaches – ask for details of availability and cost.

Code of Conduct

All members are covered by our Code of Conduct to ensure that cricket is played to the spirit of the Laws of Cricket. Parents and guardians must sign the Code before their juniors membership will be accepted.

Diversity

The Club has an open membership policy and attracts juniors, men and women players from all ethnic backgrounds, all religions and none, and many social backgrounds. We have adopted the ECB's Inclusion and Diversity Policy and our Safeguarding Officer oversees the progress of the Club in being inclusive. We run junior, mens and womens teams and provide subsidies for eligible people to enable them to meet the Club's fees where this would otherwise be a barrier to participation.

Fillongley and the Village Cup

NVC logo

Fillongley entered the very first Village Cup competition when it was inaugurated in 1972 and have entered every years since, with the exception of the Covid year. We have a proud history of success, reaching the area final many times and the semi-final on 3 occasions, most recently in 2018. We have yet to reach the final that is held each year at Lords. Is next year the year?
